Tunisia Gets Ready for Snap Presidential Poll

Twenty-six candidates have been approved by the Tunisian Electoral Commission to participate in the 15 September 2019 Presidential election, while 71 other applications were thrown out. This will be the nation’s third election since 2011 when dictator Ben Ali fell victim to the Arab Spring, actually this is were it began.

Candidates include former president Moncef Marzouki, as well as two women Salma Loumi and Abir Moussi who want to land a top spot in the newly democratic nation, getting to grips with democracy.

Originally this election was meant to take place in October but had to be moved up when Beji Caid Essebsi died in July.
