Harare Protest Blocked
1 min read
Zimbabwe’s main opposition party MDC, who had planned a demonstration for Friday 16 August will no longer hold the mass action accising the ruling party of blocking the event.
In a March that was advertised for the past 2 weeks the police blocked the protest on the 15th of August at 9pm.
The MDC’s urgent High Court application to continue with the march was dismissed as the court referred them to a lower court.
The opposition’s Vice President Tendayi Biti ceded that the march will no longer go on as the city was condoned off and activists have been arrested. There was heavy police presence I the CBD, while shops were closed and fairly low activity than usual.
There were scattered skirmishes between protestors and police.
